She didn’t know the full extent of what he had done, that was true. But the more she thought about it, the more she concluded that she didn’t care. Lin liked him, no matter what, so she told him that.

Her lips curled into a smile when she noticed how his face lit up, only for her expression to shift into a scowl when he spoke. Reaching for her right antler, she touched it with her index finger.

“Even my antlers?” she asked, surprised. “I didn’t know there was an issue with them.”

Stepping closer, she looked him in the eye. Her gaze dropped almost instantly to his mouth. Her pulse began racing. It was really hard to stay mad at him when she was looking at him, so instead of inquiring further about what he meant, she dropped it.

His smirk was mirrored with a mischievous grin, something shifting in her gaze as she did.

“Sure,” she said, her voice low.

Grabbing his hand, she laced their fingers together one more time, then looked around for the nearest exit. An anticipation she hadn’t felt before starting building up in every inch of her body as she pulled him towards the door.

Flinging the door open, she didn’t even wait for them to be out of the hallways to pull him closer, pressing her lips against his, her hands on his face. Moving away, just slightly, she looked at him again.

Outside the prom, everything was silent. Only a couple dim lights were on, her eyelashes forming shadows over her cheekbones as she looked up. Her heart was beating so hard against her ribcage Lin worried, for a second, it might jump out.

She’d never felt anything like it; it didn’t surprise him more than it surprised her. But she didn’t mind going along with it. Lin had always followed her heart, never allowing any kind of expectations or made up rules about how to behave to stand in between her and what she wanted.

This was no different.

“Where do you want to go?” she asked, still standing so close she could notice every single movement of his face, every breath. The mischievous light came back to her dark eyes. “We could go to my room, if you’d want.”
