Inside the elevator, Bobby loosened the knot of his tie, the silk sliding through his fingers with a soft hiss. His mind was a frantic inventory of his apartment. Dishes in the sink? Probably. Laundry on the floor? Definitely. But was it a disaster? No, it was… lived-in. It would have to do.

Remy’s question, laced with that irresistible charm, hung in the air. Bobby’s gaze dropped to the magician’s mouth, then back to his eyes, a faint smile touching his lips. "They'd think Santa came early for the guy in 6B," he quipped, his voice a little softer than he intended.

Then Remy was there, a breath away, the scent of leather, bourbon, and spice filling the small space. The chill that naturally emanated from Bobby’s skin seemed to intensify, a reflexive, nervous response. He could feel the phantom warmth of the other man, a tantalizing promise just beyond the threshold of his own personal winter. Bobby’s stomach tightened. He was so out of his depth. Remy moved with a languid, practiced confidence that spoke of a thousand such moments in a hundred other elevators. Bobby, by contrast, felt every nerve ending firing at once, a chaotic, internal blizzard of anticipation and doubt.

CF: Father Figures and Fuel Lines, before Night Terrors

Obviously, Professor Xavier had finally come to his senses and realized Laura was ready to be a real super hero, not left behind at school with the Juniors when trouble came. Sensible of him. She had the most confirmed kills in the place, besides perhaps Weapon X himself, after all. She was exactly who you would want on a mission.

She was not sure why they had also brought Tarot, the other girl seemed too nice to kill anyone. Laura would have to make sure no one got to her.

Rogue could handle herself. She had proven that against the Purifiers. Laura would not be touching her again though. They had come to an impasse, apparently Rogue would not be facilitating her being kicked out of school, so Laura would keep an eye on her back too. Good thing. The middle of nowhere would have been the perfect place to push someone troublesome into frozen water and pretend it was an accident.

Too bad Hellion had not come.

Laura pressed her hands and nose to the window of the Blackbird. She wanted to see a polar bear, but did not voice that out loud. It was time to be professional.

She would just keep her eyes peeled.

Of course the ice melted away and by the time they landed she was looking at a jungle. Laura followed Rogue off the plane, shadowing the woman's footsteps and stopping behind her, sniffing the air. "I do not know about paradise Professor. There are reptiles out there. And they are large." She cocked her head, listening. There were all sorts of animals scurrying around nearby and she could smell, well not quite a lizard, but something.

Her eyes flicked to Magneto. Rogue was tense, more than just on a mission. Laura had no idea why, but she could smell it. Not to mention...

"I thought he was a bad guy," she whispered to Rogue. She had seen the footage from Alcatraz if nothing else, shaky and low quality though it had been. He had definitely been on the other side. She was not thrilled to hear his magnetism would be even better here, she might not have the full adamantium skeleton Wolverine did, but her claws were coated in the metal. She would hate for him to start dragging her along by them.

It would make him very hard to kill.

Maybe Tarot could summon her lion back if it came down to it. She would get Marie-Ange alone and consult with her.

[ cont. from until the morn comes around ]

Theresa Cassidy had never much cared for MRD business. Too often it reeked of suspicion, fear, and the faint iron tang of people waiting for violence to justify itself. But tonight, standing at the edge of a crash site that wasn't quite a crash, she found herself swallowing that distaste and setting her shoulders like she carried all their nerves herself. The cave ahead yawned dark and unsettled, a wound carved into the earth with no sign of wreckage to explain it. Something was inside—something restless enough to snatch an armed man without leaving so much as a scream.

Doug stood a few paces away, speaking low with the MRD's on-site commander, his knack for pulling meaning from words already smoothing over what might have been panic. Terry drifted closer, her presence quiet but intentional. She came up behind her teammate, speaking in turn, "Your men are rattled, and I don't blame 'em." She loosed a thread of her voice, nothing sharp—just a hum soft as breath, carrying that subtle nudge of serenity she'd long since learned to wield. The soldiers' shoulders eased. The darting, nervous glances slowed. "We'll take it from here. If there's word worth sharin', you'll hear it direct from me." They'd be convinced, soon enough, that their duty here was done, that X-Factor could handle the unknown without their trembling rifles.

At the mouth of the cave, John stood with his usual restless swagger, asking who would step first into the dark. Terry's gaze followed the shadows within, and she felt the pull of responsibility tighten her chest. Senior, like it or not. She offered Doug a small nod to finish the work he'd started, then crossed the ground toward John, her boots crunching on loose stone. "You want volunteers? Grand." she said as she approached the pyromanic, "I'll go first. You can follow after, unless yer knees are knockin' too hard to walk." In her typical playful fashion, Terry shot him a quick raspberry, tongue out and teasing.

That hum resumed, just a touch louder now, carried forward into the black like a beacon. Calm for the team, calm for the soldiers retreating behind them, calm for whatever thing had made this cave its cradle. If something listened, she wanted it to know: they weren't here to rage. They were here to understand.

CF - Get Schooled

Night fell upon the school and the inhabitants were nestled in the comforts of their rooms. Some stayed up to chat with each other. Others wanted to get ahead of schedule and work on tomorrow's assignments. The majority of the students were fast asleep, but then there were a select few who weren't. Sleep didn't come easy to Shard. Not when there were a million and one things racing through it. It was common for her as she was constantly on guard-- back in her timeline that is. Unlike now, threats loomed around every corner. She belonged to a future that was filled with darkness, uncertainty, and pain for Mutants of all kinds. She fought to protect them, protect her family, and protect herself. With that, sleep was often a luxury she couldn't afford. But what about now? This timeline brought peace that was easily attainable. After all, she was completing side work as an art teacher. Fighting and defenses were at a minimum in comparison. She had free time to have a life she only dreamed of.

But why did she still feel uneasy?

The woman frowned as she sat precariously out of her window. Half of her was inside while the other hung out in the darkness. Her gaze was upwards towards the moonless sky. The stars, faint as they were, twinkled against the black expanse of the world above. She closed her eyes. Tiredness overcame but sleep wouldn't. Willing herself relief didn't work. It rarely did. Instead she listened to the night's sounds and found herself relaxing in that way.

Yet, a sound alerted her senses. It was unnatural. Mechanisms and the whirling of metal hit her ears and her eyes flashed wide open. Her senses were telling her that something wasn't right, and rarely were they ever wrong. Slipping on her gear, she leaped out of her window--thankfully it wasn't the drop wasn't too far down-- and landed onto the cold ground. She remained still in place as she landed, feeling the air tingle with electricity and something else. Then she heard it. The clanking of machines over on the clearing. And with that, she took off.

Shard arrived to eye Logan, James, and Laura engage in combat with what she assumed were the Prowlers that were discussed a time ago. She had yet to encounter one until now, but she was more than ready to get acquainted with them. She aimed her gun at one of them heading towards the wall and pulled the trigger to release a series of bullets towards its head. With precise aim, it connected and fell to the ground. Shard expected it to stay down but it staggered back into a standing position. Was her ammo not strong enough for it?

Nearby, though, a sight caught her eye. She turned to see a Sentinel looming in the distance. Eyes growing large, she was shocked to see that they were present in this timeline. Analyzing it, she learned it looked a bit different from the ones she's exposed to. Hopefully that difference meant it was easier to take down.

"Have any of you taken one of these down before?" she asked the small group and flexed her neck. It would be a helluva lot better to know if anyone had prior experience to this older model to take it down faster. If not, she was in for a long night she supposed. She then turned to Laura and nodded. "From what I can tell, this is." Shard had left one part of the school to arrive here where the threat was present. She pressed a button to her ear and spoke.

"Shard here. We have a situation on the east field. We need backup," she spoke. Her eyes, though scanning the rest of the Prowlers, never left the Sentinel above. She was ready to take this down just like the one in her timeline.
